Westlands Water District Applauds Federal Investment in Shasta Dam and Water Infrastructure in California
Fresno, California – Following the announcement from the U.S. Department of the Interior and Bureau of Reclamation regarding funding provided through the One Big Beautiful Bill (Public Law 119-21) for the Shasta Dam and Reservoir Enlargement Project and other surface water storage and conveyance improvements, Allison Febbo, General Manager of Westlands Water District, issued the following statement:
“Westlands Water District applauds the Trump Administration’s leadership and commitment to strengthening California’s water storage infrastructure. The federal funding provided for the Shasta Dam enlargement project represents an important step toward advancing a long-overdue investment in water supply reliability.
“This critical funding will help put shovels in the ground and position California to better capture and store water during wet years for use during inevitable dry years. This year’s mix of wet days followed by an unusual March heatwave only demonstrates how critical expanding storage capacity is in the state. It is a practical, forward-looking, and essential strategy that protects necessary water supplies that sustain productive farmland and ensures that our family farmers can continue growing the food that feeds America.
“We are grateful to Secretary Burgum, Congressman Fong, Congressman Calvert, and Congressman Valadao for their leadership and dedication to advancing this long-overdue investment in California’s water future.”
Westlands Water District also welcomed the Trump Administration’s broader commitment to strengthening California’s water infrastructure through additional investments in surface water storage and conveyance improvements made possible through the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Febbo added, “Westlands Water District is also appreciative for the critical funding to support key water conveyance infrastructure throughout the state, including improvements to the San Luis Canal and Delta-Mendota Canal. These facilities are essential components of the Central Valley Project, delivering water to farms and rural communities throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Investments in conveyance infrastructure represent a practical step toward improving water supply reliability for the hard-working family farms who produce much of the nation’s food supply.”
