Director Elections Moved to Even-Numbered Years
On March 20, 2018, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors approved Westlands Water District Resolution No. 132-17 moving District Director Elections from odd numbered years to even-numbered years. This change was approved based on the District’s request to move to even-numbered years to comply with SB 415 signed into law on September 1, 2015. The law requires special districts with regularly-scheduled odd-year elections which have experienced a significant decrease in voter turnout compared with the previous four statewide general elections, to adopt a plan by January 1, 2018 to consolidate future elections with statewide even-year general elections not later than the November 8, 2022 statewide general election.
Director elections originally scheduled for August 2019 will now be held in November 2020. Director elections originally scheduled for August 2021 will now be held in November 2022. For those Board members whose terms of office would have expired in 2019, their terms of office are extended to 2020. For those Board members whose terms of office would have expired in 2021, their terms of office are extended to 2022.
